“We are pleased that attendance trade shows can now finally take place again. The personal exchange with customers, prospects and partners at a trade fair will continue to play an important role in the future.” Stephan Pittner, CTO Carl Cloos Schweißtechnik announces live circuits to the Haiger manufacturing site during Blechexpo/Schweisstec 2021. This means that visitors to the trade show can find out directly about solutions for automated welding and ask questions of the experts on site.

What current topics and trends is the sheet metal working industry currently dealing with?

The degree of automation will also increase in upstream and downstream processes. Our customers increasingly want to integrate solutions for automated welding technology with different manufacturing technologies such as grinding applications in one production line. In addition, increasing digitalization enables optimal control and continuous improvement of robotic welding systems. Artificial intelligence is also becoming increasingly important and is an important partner for humans in the factory of the future. That is why we are constantly expanding our range of digital solutions.

How do German companies in the sheet metal working and welding technology sector see themselves positioned in terms of digitization and automation?

After all, Industry 4.0 aims to map the manufacture of an individual product end-to-end, from order to delivery. This is where we support our customers. It’s all about producing individual solutions fully automatically – and for this we supply all the equipment with the robot as the central element from a single source. Today, we can simulate all processes of the robot plant with a digital twin. The power source and robot are increasingly becoming a system that can optimize itself. In addition to recording all production data such as welding parameters, arc times, program run times or various efficiency indicators, it is particularly important for users to have this data available quickly and clearly. Here, platform-based online tools are becoming increasingly popular. With our C-Gate IoT Platform, users can access real-time information from your welding shop. We are currently working on the ability to bring in simpler upstream and downstream processes, and we already have them in use with beta testers.

The change in the automotive industry has begun – what challenges and opportunities does this mean for the sheet metal working industry?

We realize integrated manufacturing solutions for a wide range of industries. Thanks to our broad positioning, we are not affected by the changing conditions in the automotive sector as much as other companies. The shift to e-mobility brings some opportunities for us. The demand for battery systems, for example, will continue to grow. We can contribute our manufacturing expertise for these components.

How important is it for you personally or for your company to be present at trade shows and to exchange ideas with customers in person – especially at Blechexpo/Schweisstec 2021?

We are pleased that attendance fairs can now finally take place again. The personal exchange with customers, interested parties and partners at a trade show will continue to play an important role in the future. Digital formats are a great addition, but cannot completely replace face-to-face encounters.

With which product highlight will you come to Stuttgart for Blechexpo/Schweisstec 2021?

During demonstrations in the manual welding area, trade visitors can experience the constantly growing product range of QINEO welding equipment live. With its excellent price/performance ratio, the QINEO StarT provides a great new entry-level solution into the world of modern MSG welding technology. The high-tech welding power source QINEO NexT offers excellent welding results and flexible application possibilities in manual and automated areas. Soon, the QINEO QuesT will join the portfolio for high-end TIG applications as a new benchmark. Furthermore, we have further developed our QIROX robot portfolio, robot control and digital products such as our digitalization platform C-Gate IoT Platform and our QIROX offline programming software RoboPlan. In addition, live connections will be made from our booth to our manufacturing site in Haiger. This allows our visitors to learn directly about our complex solutions for automated welding and ask questions to the experts on site.
